Howard Steng, Studio Manager and Wonderful Teacher
I've been working in Clay for about 4 years. My favorite part is the relationship between the potter and the clay at each phase in the creative process. At those times, it is as though nothing else matters.
I like being part of the staff. It is an opportunity to learn about clay and grow as a potter. It also allows me to contribute to the energy of the place. My understanding this far of ceramics is that it involves a great deal of trial and error. It is more an intuitive experience in which potters not only get to make things but also learn a great deal about themselves. To get a chance to learn these things is what the studio has given to me. Whether it be throwing a pot, mixing glaze, loading the kiln, or sweeping the floor, it's a lot about centering.
I think our studio is a healthy, vibrant space. You can tell by all the amazing and wonderful objects that everyone makes. The smiles and laughter. It is all very inspiring.
